Future Alternative Messaging and Data Transmission in Difficult Conditions - Faraday's Cage (ZANDER-F)

Background

The ZANDER project addresses the critical need to enable communication and imaging in environments where conventional methods fail. A key scenario is communication within teams on a container ship, where the massive steel structure hinders signal transmission. Equally important is imaging for underground structures such as tunnels, where the layers of earth make visual inspection impossible. Another field of application is the detection of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in urban areas, where trees and buildings shield radar signals and block line of sight. These challenges require innovative approaches to ensure safety and efficiency in these critical areas.

Aim

The main goal of ZANDER is to develop innovative solutions that enable reliable communication and imaging under difficult conditions. By grouping the topics according to scientific challenges and dealing with them in thematically related calls, targeted research is to be promoted. ZANDER-F, a specific research project within this framework, focuses on overcoming conductive barriers or so-called Faraday cages that interfere with communication technology.

Disruptive Risk Research

ZANDER disruptive approaches have the potential to fundamentally change the way communication and imaging are conducted in challenging environments. The development of technologies that can overcome guiding barriers will not only expand the operational capacity of security forces, but also open up new opportunities for information transfer in a wide range of operational areas.
