Data Reconstruction after Targeted Data Reduction in Difficult Communication Environments

  1. Status: Planned Program

Virtual Partnering Event on Data Reduction with AI Upscaling

The Cyberagentur invites you to the partnering event – “Research and development of skills with regard to data reconstruction after targeted data reduction in difficult communication environments (DDK)”.

March 25, 2025 – 2-4 p.m.

Registration until March 18, 2025

Aim of the partnering event

Those interested in the new research program can obtain initial further information on the contents at the upcoming partnering event. Furthermore, all participants will have the opportunity to present themselves and their areas of focus and thus network with potential partners for the formation of consortia.

Agenda
  • Presentation of the Cyberagentur
  • Presentation of the DDK program
  • Introduction of the partners (2 minutes each)

Background

In environments with a difficult-to-establish communication infrastructure (existing, ad-hoc), low data transfer rates are a common problem. This leads to communication difficulties and even to interruptions during communication. Depending on the scenario, the consequences of this can not only be economic, but can also affect the health and lives of those involved.

Aim

The planned research program “Research and development of skills with regard to data reconstruction after targeted data reduction in difficult communication environments” (DDK) aims to investigate and test technologies and approaches that are suitable for reducing the data transfer rate of video/image and sound. The goal is to reduce the data rate while maintaining or even improving the usability of the image material (AI upscaling). In doing so, image and sound may only be changed to such an extent that the content is not distorted. Less relevant content can be greatly reduced and upscaled on the recipient side.

Disruptive Risk Research

The disruptive potential results from the high impact that could affect many video calls in special locations. There is also great potential for videos that are streamed over the internet. Particularly in contexts with very limited resources, enormous bandwidth savings can be made, which reduces costs and frees up high Internet infrastructure capacities. Calls can also be made more easily and without loss in difficult environments (e.g. trains).
