Agentur für Innovation in Cybersicherheit launches new research initiative
On January 22, 2025, the Agentur für Innovation in der Cybersicherheit GmbH (Cyberagentur) published the call for proposals for the MoIn-LaMAS research project. The aim is to develop mobile communication infrastructures that can operate autonomously in crisis and disaster situations. With a focus on the reconfigurability and resilience of communication networks, the project aims to lay the foundation for future key technologies in disaster and border protection.
With the launch of the research project “MoIn-LaMAS – Mobile Infrastructure: Situation Orientation for Mobile Autonomous Systems”, the Cyberagentur is pursuing the aim of strengthening the communication infrastructure in challenging deployment scenarios. The expected results from the research are to be used in disaster control, border protection and other scenarios with high time and action pressure.
“MoIn-LaMAS will make it possible to place autonomous communication nodes flexibly and efficiently in areas that are difficult to access. This creates new perspectives for rapid response in crisis situations and significantly improves the resilience of our communication infrastructures,” explains Dr. Eva-Maria Heinke, Head of Unit for Autonomous Intelligent Systems.
The project uses swarm networks of heterogeneous unmanned systems to provide a mobile ad-hoc communication infrastructure. This can react autonomously to changing operating conditions, which represents a significant advance over previous stationary or satellite-based approaches. “MoIn-LaMAS draws on the latest technological approaches in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence to ensure a reliable and flexible solution,” reports deputy project manager Tom Weber.
The project, with a research volume of 5 million euros and a duration of three years, will provide decisive impetus for civil protection in Germany. The results of the research work will be evaluated in the form of a demonstrator to ensure that the technologies developed are suitable for practical use.
The call for proposals is aimed at research institutions and companies that would like to contribute to the further development of mobile communication with innovative concepts. Interested parties are invited to submit their proposals by March 7, 2025. Further information can be found on the website of the Agentur für Innovation in Cybersicherheit.
The invitation to tender was published in the Supplement to the Official Journal of the European Union with the contract notice number TED 46840-2025: https://ted.europa.eu/de/notice/-/detail/46840-2025. The end of the call for tenders is 07.03.2025.
