On May 16, 2024, the Agency for Innovation in Cybersicherheit (Cyberagentur) is holding a partnering event in preparation for a new research contract. In the project “Damage caused by cybercrime”, future contractors are to drive forward research and development in the field of cyber resilience. The award procedure is scheduled for summer 2024.

At the partnering event on May 16, 2024, the Cyberagentur would like to inform interested parties about the aims of the future research contract “Damage caused by cybercrime”. At the same time, potential contractors will have the opportunity to present their expertise in the field and thus promote possible collaborations in research networks. “We are inviting representatives from research institutions, authorities, associations, companies and start-ups,” says project manager Dr. Nicole Selzer, research officer in the Cyberagentur’s Secure Society department.

The research project “Harm caused by cybercrime” aims to develop a model, including metrics and methodologies, for the holistic recording of short, medium and long-term harms caused by cybercrime. The results will make a valuable contribution to the national and international cyber security strategy and will serve as a basis for further research in the thematic focus area of the cyber-resilient society.

Dr Nicole Selzer emphasises the need for precise data: “We currently lack the data basis to fully record the material and immaterial harm caused by cybercrime. With a precise assessment based on a valid database, we can better assess the risk of over- or underestimation and thus deploy resources in a targeted manner.”

The virtual partnering event offers a good opportunity to network and assess potential research alliances. Interested parties can register via the website https://www.cyberagentur.de/partnering-sck/. The conference language is English. The call for proposals for the research project is scheduled for summer 2024.
