On November 27, the Agentur für Innovation in der Cybersicherheit GmbH (Cyberagentur) is inviting experts and interested parties from the fields of cryptography and cybersecurity to a virtual partnering event. “The focus is on groundbreaking research results and the creation of collaborations that deal with the development of side-channel-resistant post-quantum cryptosystems,” emphasizes Dr. Matthias Minihold, Head of Cryptology at the Cyberagentur. This event offers a good opportunity to network with leading experts for a planned call for proposals for the research program.

The rapid development of powerful quantum computers poses unprecedented challenges for digital security. Many of the cryptographic methods used today could be compromised by the computing power of quantum computers in the foreseeable future. Although post-quantum cryptography (PQC) algorithms are already being intensively investigated, physical implementations of cryptosystems still harbor the risk of so-called side-channel attacks. These attacks aim to evaluate information such as power consumption, time measurements or electromagnetic emissions in order to reconstruct secret keys.

To counter these threats, the research program “Side-channel resistant post-quantum cryptology” (SCA4PQC) was initiated by the Cyberagentur. “The aim is to develop cryptographic procedures that are resistant to both mathematical attacks and all common side-channel attacks” explains Dr. Minihold continued, “the focus is on creating efficient countermeasures that will also withstand future threats”.

As part of the virtual partnering event on November 27, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., participants will have the opportunity to get to know the research program and exchange ideas with leading researchers. The event offers an ideal platform to form possible consortia for the planned call for proposals of the research program.

Interested parties can now register for the event and actively contribute to ensuring that cryptosystems remain secure in the era of quantum computers.
